In this series of photographs, I investigated my fascination for the boundaries between the highway and the world beyond. Nowadays, the highway is seen purely as a logistics and functional landscape, and no longer as a fascinating (new) concept. It does not fit in our culture anymore to experience roadside tourism as was the case in the 1950s. Today, for security reasons, it is necessary to have physical boundaries with the highway landscape. I approached these contemporary boundaries by taking three different perspectives, as an outsider, traveller and observer. By capturing the inaccessibility of the Dutch highway I would like to offer a new perspective on this ignored landscape.
